We want to attract veterans to our school and MBA program because they’re a very deep and talented pool of individuals. They’re trained in specific skills; they’ve worked in teams; they’re leadership-ready.

“But even beyond that, they want to have an impact on the world. I can’t think of a better school for a veteran to attend than Rice Business.”

Dean, Jones Graduate School of Business

Military and Veterans’ Benefits

If you are an active-duty service member, veteran, or military spouse or family member, you may be eligible for benefits that can help make earning your MBA more affordable. Your benefits may vary based on your individual circumstances.

POST-9/11 GI BILL®

The majority of students who are eligible to receive veterans’ benefits utilize the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. If you are eligible, you can receive funding that includes

  • tuition and fee coverage for up to 36 months,
  • a monthly housing allowance while you are enrolled, and
  • as much as $1,000 a year for books and supplies.

ELIGIBILITY

You may be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® if

  • you have at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, and are still on active duty;
  • you are an honorably discharged veteran; or
  • you were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days of active-duty service.

The percentage of eligibility ranges from 50 percent to 100 percent. To determine your percentage of eligibility, visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) website.

YELLOW RIBBON PROGRAM

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a component of the Post-9/11 GI Bill® that allows institutions to enter into a voluntary agreement with the VA. It is designed to help you fund the tuition and fee expenses that exceed the tuition and fee amounts payable under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® annual allotment. In addition, you may also receive funding toward a monthly housing allowance, books and supplies.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program, you must:

  • be 100 percent eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® and
  • not be on active duty or a spouse of an active-duty member.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

As you research the education benefits that may be available to you, it’s important to keep in mind:

1. You must determine your eligibility before you apply for benefits. To do so, visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website.

2. To apply for benefits, you will need the following documentation:

a. your Certificate of (Honorable) Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD-214) if discharged from active service

b. your military transcript

c. your Certificate of Eligibility (COE). To request your COE, you will need to complete the Education Benefits Application.

3. Funding cannot exceed the total cost of attendance.
