Ilan Strauss holds an MSc in development economics (SOAS, University of London) and a PhD in economics from the New School for Social Research in New York (expected May 2019). Ilan has taught macroeconomics as an adjunct at New York University’s School of Professional Studies. He worked as an external consultant for UNCTAD at the United Nations, writing the Africa section of the World Investment Report from 2014-2018. Prior to this he worked for the African Development Bank in Tunisia. A native of South Africa, he continues to write policy inputs for government, business, and labor through the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He serves as a peer reviewer for several journals. His current research focuses on understanding the constraints to firms’ investment decisions using large firm-level data sets.
