Financial Aid Checklist
Before applying, review your anticipated educational and living expenses for each term. Consider the number of credit hours you plan to take, as your tuition is charged on a per-credit-hour basis, and determine whether you may need additional funding such as loans to support your costs.
Determine your anticipated costs through the Funding Calculator.
The Department of Education offers two loan types available to U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents: the graduate unsubsidized loan and the graduated PLUS loan.
- Submit the FAFSA (School Code: 003604)
- Direct Unsubsidized loan eligibility will be reviewed for each aid year.
- Complete a Graduate PLUS Loan Request if borrowing beyond the Unsub limit
- Complete required federal loan steps:
- Entrance Counseling
- Master Promissory Note(s) will be needed for each loan type
Private Student Loans are an additional funding option to be used in combination with, or as an alternative to Federal Student Loans. Approval and loan terms are based on the applicant’s credit worthiness as determined by the lender. Rice Business has consolidated a list of most commonly used private educational lenders.
- Research lenders and compare interest rates, terms, and borrower benefits
- Apply directly through your chosen lender’s website
- Complete any lender-specific requirements or verifications
- Certification is then sent to the school, as well as payments
