Prashant Kale

Associate Professor of Strategic Management

Prashant Kale is Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Jessie H. Jones School of Business, Rice University. Prior to Rice he was faculty at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan and he has also been visiting faculty at the Wharton School, the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, and the Indian School of Business. Prashant has earned a Masters and Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the Wharton School, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from University of Pune, India. Prashant’s research focuses on Corporate Strategy, Strategic Alliances & Mergers and Acquisitions and he articles on these issues have been published in reputed international journals such as the Strategic Management Journal, Harvard Business Review, California Management Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, European Management Journal, Managerial and Decision Economics, Academy of Management Perspective, etc. He has received the Best Paper Award in the International Management Division of the Academy of Management and the Annual Strategic Management Society Conference. His paper on ‘Building Alliance Capabilities’ was also rated among the 50 most-cited papers in Management in 2011. Prashant is a Member of the Editorial Board of the Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business and Strategic Organization. Prashant teaches the Core Strategy Course in the full time, professional and executive MBA programs at the Jones School and he has also taught electives on managing strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions and healthcare strategy at Rice, Michigan and Indian School of Business. Prashant has received several awards for excellence in teaching and he was also rated among the Top-10 Business School Professors by Bloomberg Businessweek. Before returning to academia, Prashant worked in the industry for several years with companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Siemens, ICI Plc., and the Tata Group in several different countries.
